Complete FSSAI Registration Process
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an organisation that audits and regulate the food industry in India. It is a self-governing agency established by the Government of India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Who Require FSSAI Registration?
FBOs engaged in the below-listed professions are required by the law to acquire an FSSAI Registration:
Retail shops and petty retailers, such as Retail Shop, Snack Shop, Confectionery or Bakery Shop, and so on.
Temporary or fixed stalls or food premises involved in the preparation, distribution, storage, and sale of food products such as Gol Gappa stall, chat stall, fruits/vegetable vendors, Beverage Stall, gourmet stalls, and so on.
Hawkers are people who sell packaged or freshly prepared food by travelling from one location to another (usually on foot or in movable carts).
Milk Chilling Units, Petty Milkman, and Milk Vendors are examples of dairy units.
Processing Units for Vegetable Oil
Slaughtering establishments such as meat markets, mutton markets, chicken markets, lamb meat markets, and so on.
Units for meat and fish processing
All food manufacturing/processing units that include food repackaging.
Food that is exclusive to a company and food that is novel.
A storage facility that is cold/refrigerated.
Food wholesaler, supplier, distributor, and marketer.
Hotels, Restaurants, and Pubs
Cafeterias and canteens, including mid-day meal canteens
Caterers and food vending companies
Dhabas, PGs that serve food, banquet halls with food catering arrangements, home-based canteens, and food stalls at fairs or religious institutions are all examples of food service establishments.
Food importers and exporters, including food ingredients
Cloud kitchens are e-commerce food suppliers.
Each of the previously stated business types' inclusion criteria assesses the category of FSSAI license/registration required. The FSSAI website contains a list of the eligibility requirements for each type of business and license.
Process for FSSAI Registration Online
FBOs can obtain FSSAI registration online by completing and submitting Form A (application for Registration) or Form B (application for State and Central License) on the FoSCoS portal. Offline registration is also possible for FBOs by submitting Form A or Form B to the Food and Safety Department.
The required documents must be submitted with the FSSAI registration form. The documents must be uploaded online on the FoSCos portal at the time of application submission or physically posted to the Food and Safety Department along with the application.
The Department can accept or reject the FSSAI registration form within 7 days of receiving an application, either physically or online through the FoSCoS portal. If the application is rejected, the applicant must be notified in writing.
The Department will review the documents that have been submitted.
If needed ., the Department may perform an audit of the food establishments before issuing the FSSAI registration certificate.
If the Department determines that the FBO meets all of the required criteria, it will issue an FSSAI registration certificate with the registration number and the applicant's email ID photo.
During work time, the FSSAI registration certificate should be displayed prominently at the FBO.
